S4C confirms plans for live coverage

Thursday 05 August 2010

S4C TELEVISION has confirmed plans for live coverage of a Welsh Premier game on most Saturdays this season.
In an official announcement at the league's launch in Bodelwyddan on Thursday, S4C says that the live domestic league games, which will kick-off at 3.45pm, will form the centerpiece of a new-look show which will provide "a comprehensive results service" from Wales and beyond.
Filling the void created by BBC Wales, when it pulled the plug on its Wales on Saturday show a year ago, the Welsh language broadcaster has appointed former BBC commentator and presenter Dylan Ebenezer, who has been a keen follower of the league since its inception, to join John Hartson and Malcolm Allen, an established channel pundit, who have more than 100 Welsh international caps.
Highlights of the other Welsh Premier games will continue to be shown on Sgorio on Monday nights and viewers who miss the live matches can also view them on the S4C website.
welsh-premier.com understands that David James will provide English language commentary on the red button.
"S4C takes pride in its role as the home of live events of Welsh interest and our extensive coverage of sports in Wales on all levels reflects our dedication," says content editor for sport, Geraint Rowlands.
The first fixture to be screened live will be Carmarthen Town against Aberystwyth Town from Richmond Park on Saturday 14 August in a show, which goes on air at three o'clock.
