Mynydd Llandegai FC are the 2009-2010 NWCFA Junior Cup winners following a thrilling final held at Porthmadog's Y Traeth on Friday night against pre-match favouites Bangor City Reserves that was decided with a penalty shoot out. Mynydd took the lead inside two minutes courtesy of their livewire striker Paul De Wart and were two up after 8 minutes when De Wart added a second against a shell shocked Bangor and had a couple of other excellent chances to put the match beyond the reach of Bangor. However, the Citizens rallied and pulled one back before the break thanks to Steven Jones and with Bangor dominating most of the play during the second period, substitute Daniel Bulayima levelled in the closing ten minutes to set up the extra half hour. Both sides could not be separated after 120 minutes and Mynydd held their nerve in sudden deat to win 6-5 on penalties. NWCFA Councillor Joe Furnival presented winning captain Luke Mabon with the coveted trophy after the match and Paul De Wart was nominated as man of the match.

Clwyd Reserve League side Prestatyn Town came from behind to claim the NWCFA Intermediate Cup in a tense final played at Bbangor City's Farrar Road ground last night, thus condemning CPD Gwalchmai to being finalists for the second season running. After a goal less opening 45 minutes, Corey Sinnott gave the Islanders a deserved lead midway through the second half with a superb strike only for Chris Davies to level for Prestatyn in the closing quarter of an hour to set up an extra half hour. In the first period of extra time, Prestatyn were awarded a spot kick. Davies' initial kick was superbly saved by Gwalch keeper & captain Kenny Hughes, however, with the shot having rebounded over the post, Davies followed up to score into an empty net.

An excellent crowd af around 150 at Flint Town United's Cae Y Castell ground witnessed a tremendous Sunday Challenge Cup Final between two even sides in Cross Foxes of Holywell and last season's beaten finalists Flint RBL who were hoping to go one better. The opening 45 forty five minutes could not separate either side until Wayne Bayliss opened the scoring for the Foxes after 62 minutes with a well taken goal. This looked to have won the match until Lee Taylor popped up to level the match with two minutes left on the clock to take the tie to extra time. Bayliss then scored his second with a 35 yard lob on 104 minutes but Steve Alcocks' unstoppable shot on 115 minutes made sure that penalties would settle the encounter. The Foxes kept their nerve the better winning 3-1 from twelve yards.

The weather has caused havoc with all Cup Competitions since the turn of the year that has been a massive headache to organise and re-schedule, however, thanks to the Clubs and all the affiliated Leagues' co-operation, the Junior Section age groups are down to the last four with a couple of exceptions with the Junior Cup and Intermediate Cup finally down to the last eight after the weekend results. One or two hiccups exist with the Senior Challenge Cup again this season, albeit two quarter final ties will be settled in March, possibly three. Following last Sunday's washout or (snowout), all matches including the Sunday Challenge Cup Semi-Finals have been rearranged for this coming Sunday. Tonight's Senior Challenge Cup tie sponsored by UNITE between Bangor City FC and CPD Porthmadog has been switched to the Traeth for next Tuesday night and the Queensferry Sports sponsored Junior Cup tie between Bangor City FC and the holders Trearddur Bay United FC has been brought forward to this coming Saturday, 27th February and will be staged at the home of Cemaes Bay FC, kick off 1:30pm. The draws for ALL Semi-Finals of ALL Competitions will be made this coming Thursday and these will be posted on to the site before this weekend. A reminder to all Clubs left in the respective Cup Competitions - the draws for the next rounds of all Competitions will be made tomorrow night (26th October 2009) and these will be posted on the website within 24 hours for your information. All the results received to date are now posted but one or two clubs have chosen not to ring in their results and this does cause extra unnecessary work for all concerned. In the meantime and at the time of editing this news, with the exception of the Sunday Challenge Cup matches that are being played this morning and the U14 Cup plus 2 Outstanding Intermediate Cup matches due to be played next weekend, all the scheduled matches have been completed. The NWCFA would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone for their co-operation and patience during the last 4 weeks of competition that has been a trying time to sort out. The current shortage of Referees has been a problem for our new Referees Secretary with Senior Leagues having to take our more Senior Officials, sometimes at the last moment. - but this was only one factor of many that we experienced. We would ask everyone, including Leagues and Clubs to continue to be patient, however, with all competitions reaching the last 16, less Referees will be needed and the administrative task will, hopefully, be easier on all NWCFA Officers. Diolch am eich cyd-weithrediad.
